ECI School Games is the tournament for Greate Edendale high schools and this event is organised by Edendale Community Initiative (ECI), a non-profit organisation and has been staged at the Wadley Stadium in area of Edendale in Pietermaritzburg, KZN.
The lead sponsor for this event, since inception, is Supersave Supermarket – a Pietermaritzburg retailer – hence the name of the event is Supersave ECI School Games.
We have staged this event successfully at the same venue (Wadley Stadium) in 2018 and 2019 but, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, it could not happen in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Walk to the Stadium
The day of the tournament begins at 7:30 when schools gather outside Caluza Hall.
From there we walk to the Wadley Stadium with participants (teachers, pupils, and guests) carrying placards that put a spotlight on and condemn social ills that plague our country like violence in schools, drug abuse as well as Gender Based Violence.
Local traffic officers/SAPS get deployed to assist with controlling the procession.

Aerobics At the Stadium
At the Stadium where the tournament is staged we start with the prayer and then do aerobics. Anyone who does not participate in the soccer and netball is allowed to join the fun exercise.
The drawing competition
Each of the participating schools conducts its own internal competition for the design of a banner portraying a human rights message, a picture or a quote of Nelson Mandela, since it is a Mandela month.
A school will then nominate two Learners with the best artworks who will compete with similar Learners from the other schools. At the event, the Officials will choose the best three winners who will be eligible to win vouchers.
Soccer & Netball Games begin
Each participating school receives Jerseys for both its Netball and Soccer teams. With ECI School Games each school is a wins before the start of the games.
The games begin. The best three teams per sporting code become eligible to win prizes.
Feasting
Each school receives a braai stand as well as braai packs. There’s also catering service for our VIP guests, including members of the media.
